Description

A Maryland Bridge is a type of conservative fixed dental prosthesis used to replace a missing tooth by attaching a pontic (artificial tooth) to the adjacent natural teeth using metal or ceramic wings bonded to the back surfaces of those teeth. Unlike conventional bridges, a Maryland bridge requires minimal tooth preparation, preserving most of the natural enamel. It is commonly used for anterior teeth where aesthetics are important and biting forces are moderate, as the bridge relies on adhesive bonding rather than crowns covering the adjacent teeth. Maryland bridges can be made with metal-reinforced porcelain, zirconia, or all-ceramic materials to enhance both strength and appearance.
